Welcome to the BMS Bands Website!
Dear Band Parents and Students,
If you are a new parent or student and are looking for information about band at Beer Middle School you are in the right place! With all the many changes, we will still be playing instruments! It may be virtual to start, but at some point we will come into the building and play instruments together. That means you will need to rent an instrument for 6th grade beginning band! I will be making changes and getting information out to parents in the coming days. The Remind groups have changed so if you need to contact me, please use the Contact Mr. Schultz tab above if you are new to Beer.
To my students and their families,
First and foremost, I would like to thank all of my students for their efforts this school year. I am truly grateful for what you gave to our band and choir program this year! Even though our time was cut short, I could see what an impact you made in our music program! This would not be possible without the amazing support of all the parents and families as well. I would also like to thank Mrs. Stanton and Mr. Williamson as well as the counseling department for all of their support this school year!
As we come to a close of our school year, I am deeply saddened by the loss of our time together which is the most enjoyable part of my job, the loss of our end of the year performances, and of course, our Cedar Point Trip! As your musical guide, these times are the most rewarding for me personally, because I get to see the best of your abilities, musical growth, and get to know you all just a little better, especially my 8th grade students as you get ready to move to high school.
I want to take a moment to say a few words to my 8th graders. You were spared my spring concert speech this year, but I want all of you to know that I will miss you next year! Each of you have such a great personality that would keep me laughing and remind me how lucky I am to have the career that I have! I know that I will see you next year over at Mott during certain events and I'm looking forward to hearing you perform at that next level! I hope that you have learned a lot during our time together and I feel confident that you will be successful in life! Use what you know, and don't be afraid to make mistakes! You will always be welcome to visit and share your stories! I want to wish you luck and happiness in your future!
For my 6th and 7th graders, I can't wait to get into next school year and I hope it will be something that we will recognize as "normal"!! Later this week I will be posting a list of students who have earned the privilege and trust to be in next year's Symphonic Band. Those of you who were already there, will of course be there again, but for the new members, this group comes with some expectations and I'm sure that you will do your best to be ready for our first rehearsal together next fall. If you do not make it into Symphonic Band, do not worry, our Concert Band is just a stepping stone that gets you ready for Symphonic Band. Both bands will be slightly larger next year and I'm excited to see all of our new 6th grade students. There are a total of 84 sixth grade students next year! That is fantastic!
To my choir students, we missed out on what was going to be a fantastic spring concert! Your voices are strong and powerful! Please don't stop singing! You are the people who make this world a better place and we need you now more than ever! I want you to know that your singing would give me chills and that is a rare thing for me. I will miss all of you and expect that you stay connected in some way, so that I may hear your stories as well. 8th graders, I wish you all the best in your future and thank you so much for being a part of the choir. You have so much to offer the world and this world is lucky to have you! I know this because I was lucky to have you!
There are some items on my to do list that have not been taken care of in our absence. Each year I pass out an award to one 8th grade band student. I intend to do this at our first concert of next school year. Because of our situation, I can not say for certain when or where that will be, however, I will not allow COVID-19 to stop me from putting another name up on the plaque in the band room! As I learn more about next year, I will share with you what I know. I would like to have all if this years 8th graders in attendance at this concert next year.
Thank you all for your patience, support, and kindness you have given to me and my family! The Beer Community is my home and I'm looking forward to the rest of my career with the community that I love! Enjoy your summer, make some music, and know that Remind will be open all summer, should you need me.
With love and music,
Mr. Schultz
